Obituary Detail

Wright, Wilbur Leon
Passed Away:
7/16/2010

Wilbur Leon Wright of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 at the age of 80 years.

Woody, as he was known by his family and friends, was born at Luxora, Arkansas on February 22, 1930 to Jasper and Josephine (Hallmark) Wright. He was raised in St. Louis and later in 1970 moved to Sullivan to make his home. On June 6, 29, 1971 he was united in marriage to Sandra James. Woody was a commercial driver for General Cable and later McLean Trucking and was a member of teamsters Local 600. He distinguished himself with 3,000,000 safe miles. Woody also honorably served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army as part of the occupation forces in Japan. He was known and appreciated by many people. Woody also had a strong personality which some would call bull headed, but for the most part, he was a memorable person who loved his many grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Sandra of the family home; three sons, Robert L. Wright and James E. Wright, both of Sullivan and Leon Wright of the state of Nevada; two daughters, Lisa Wright of Sullivan and Stacey Wright of Florissant, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Brett Wright; other relatives and many friends.

Along with his parents, Woody was preceded in death by a son John.

Memorial funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2010 from the Chapel of Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
