Jacob Lewis “Jake” Adams of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the age of 88 years.

Jake, as he was known by his family and friends, was born at Dillard, Missouri on April 10, 1921. He was the son of the late Howard Allen and Tessie Ann (Turnbough) Adams. Jake grew up in the Dillard area and on November 5, 1948 was married to Letty J. Denny at Bentonville, Arkansas. He honorably served his country during W.W. II with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Jake attained the rank of Corporal and was a heavy truck driver and carried troops from one area to another. In 1960, he and Letty moved to the Sullivan area. Jake was employed as a spray-painter with General Motors and retired from there after 31 years of service to the company. He was proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed all of his time with them. Jake also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in the fruits of his labor.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law; Carol and Junior Gillam of Sullivan, Missouri; one sister, Eunice Yarber of Mountain View, Missouri; 2 grandchildren; Tamara Patterson and husband Dave and Heather Whelchel and husband Andrew; one great-grandchild, Daniel Jacob West; a brother-in-law Dorman Conaway or Rolla, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Jake was preceded in death by his wife, Letty, and by and sister, Gladys Politte.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2010 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor David Wells officiating. Interment was in Oddfellows Memorial Cemetery in Sullivan. Visitation for Mr. Jake Adams was held from 4:30 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2010 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
