McManus, Kenneth L. of Sullivan, Missouri passed away, Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the age of 73 years. Ken was born on June 21, 1936 at Kennett, Missouri to Virgil A. and Ruby Melissa Ann (Bush) McManus. He was raised near the Kennett and Sikeston, MO and later moved to the St. Louis area. On July 28, 1956 he was married to Hirma June Aden in Datto, Arkansas and to this union two children, Brenda Lee and Kenneth Lee were born.
Ken was a truck driver for 35 years before retiring. He played baseball for Teamsters Local 600 and for the Southside Nazarene Church. In 1984, Ken was married to Norma Gorda. After her death, he was united in marriage to Joyce Jones and they retired to Woodland Lake near Sullivan where they enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach. While Joyce was battling cancer, Ken volunteered at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan on the cancer floor and helped in the Relay for Life walks. Joyce passed away in 2000 and on June 23, 2001 was married to Carole Jarma and enjoyed the Bus Ministry at New Testament Baptist Church, picking up kids for church and vacation Bible school.
Ken loved photography, flowers, gardening, hummingbirds, fishing and hunting. He had a big heart when it came to kids and loved to help people. He was especially fond of his grandchildren, Gary, Jason, Melissa, Bethany, Tommy, Ashley, Billy, Amber, April, Kenny Andrew and AJ Jarma along with his great-grandchildren, Chloe, Chaela, Artayja and Arkaya. Along with this children Kenneth and Brenda, Ken is also survived by five step-sons, John (Bob) Jones, Michael Jones, Tony Jones and Donald Jones and James Trust; one step-daughter, Christy Jarma; two step-brothers, Ernie Friend and wife Barb, Charles Everett Brooks and wife Lois; one sister, Jo Ann Hein; two step- sisters, Ann Bush and Daisey Thielmann; and a host of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ken was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles R. McManus; and sisters, Anne Wilson and Wilma Dean McManus.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 2010 from the EATON Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Charles Idelman officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery.
