Obituary for Alma I. Bowenkamp

Alma I. Bowenkamp, age 100, of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Life Care Center of Sullivan.

Alma Ida was born on April 16, 1918 in Rosebud, Missouri to Wesley and Nora L. (Schebaum) Pohlman. She was one of eight children and she was the last surviving sibling. Alma was united in marriage to Elmer Bowenkamp on July 18, 1941 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sullivan, and they were blessed with one son, Elmer, Jr. During World War II, she lived in St. Louis with her sister, Ruby, and worked at Emerson Electric while their husbands were in the service. After the war, she became a housewife, a good cook and remained very active in her church.

Alma became a member of First Presbyterian Church on April 14, 1935 and up until her passing, she was the oldest member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was very active in the church and even taught their knitting class. Alma, along with the members of the knitting class, were especially proud of the prayer shawls they knit together.

Alma is survived by her son, Elmer R. Bowenkamp, Jr. and wife Lynda Joan of Marthasville, MO; many nieces, a nephew, and many friends. Mr. Bowenkamp would like to acknowledge the good care that Life Care Center of Sullivan provided to his mother. Thank you!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer R. Bowenkamp, Sr.; her parents, Wesley and Nora L. (Schebaum) Pohlman; seven brothers & sisters, Gladys Wahl, Amanda Glueck, Mabel Pohlman, John W. Pohlman, Ruby Rohers, Charles E. Pohlman & Marvin E. Pohlman.

Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 21, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Sullivan, with Pastor Ron Koppelmann officiating. Interment will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sullivan.
