Obituary for Naomi R. Davidson

Naomi R. Davidson, age 78 of Belleville, Illinois passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at the home of her son, Michael, in Sullivan, Missouri.

Naomi Ruth was born on March 20, 1940 in Eldorado, Illinois to Albert “Leslie” and Nannie (Williams) Hall. She grew up in Eldorado and graduated from Eldorado High School, class of 1958. She attended college at McKendree University, earning a teaching degree. She taught for a short time before entering the political world. She worked for Congressman Tim Hall, campaigned for Secretary of State Alan Dixon and worked for the Secretary of State’s office of Illinois. Naomi was involved in other campaign work for the Democratic Party for several years.

Naomi was united in marriage to Donald Davidson. Shortly after they married, they moved to Aurora, Illinois where they were blessed with a son, Michael. In 1980 the family moved to Sparta, Illinois, where Naomi and Donald divorced. Naomi then reunited with her McKendree College sweetheart, Charles Korunka, from Benld, Illinois. They were together for more than 30 years until her final passing. Naomi lived her final years in Belleville Illinois.

Naomi was a woman of faith. She was very active in the church community in the First United Methodist Church of Sparta. Her church activity continued when she moved to Belleville and joined the Union United Methodist Church, where she served on various boards on the local, district and conference level, as well as a member of the United Methodist Women. She served as the Mississippi River District UMW President and also served on the boards of Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House, East St. Louis, IL, and Cunningham Children’s Home, Urbana, Illinois. She had a heart for missions and especially for children. She was also active in the Belleville area Church Women United.

Naomi was an avid Cardinals fan since childhood, listening to the ball games on the radio with her Dad. After her retirement, she enjoyed working for the Cardinals team store in Bush Stadium for more than 10 years.

She is survived by her son, Michael Davidson and wife Cinnamon of Sullivan, MO; her boyfriend, Charles Korunka of Benld, IL; two grandchildren, Scott Davidson and significant other Jennifer Cook of New Haven, MO and Ryan Davidson of St. Louis, MO; one foster grandchild, Jaiymz Hawkins of Chicago, IL; other relatives and friends.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, Albert “Leslie” and Nannie (Williams) Hall and two infant sisters.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Union United Methodist Church, 721 E. Main Street, Belleville, Illinois. Services will then begin at 11:00 AM and interment will follow at 3:00 PM, in Crow Cemetery, 8100 Seminary Road, Sullivan, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cunningham Children’s Home, Urbana, IL, Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House of East St. Louis, IL or to the Davidson Family.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan & Bourbon, MO.
