Obituary for David A. Payne

David A. Payne, age 62, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.

David Allen was born on December 26, 1956 in Columbia, MO, the son of Robert Simmons and Frances L. Allen. He grew up and attended school in Columbia and entered the United States Army as a young man. David loved his wife, Joette, and felt that she was his Angel sent from God to him. He wasn’t a very Religious person, but he did learn the Bible and completed several courses in regard to the Bible. He had his own personal demands that he battled with over the years, but he was working to stay strong with God’s help. David was blessed to have three sons and one daughter that he loved with all of his heart. He was proud of the accomplishments his sons completed and the fathers they became. David had a kind heart and treated others like family. In his younger years, he loved to dance and listen to music. David continued to listen to music in his older years. He is truly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

David is survived by his wife, Joette O. (Burgett) Payne of Sullivan, MO; one daughter, Sonja Payne and fiancé, Uylessess Dodd, of Denver, CO; three sons, Elfonzo Reed and wife, Maiia, of Colorado Springs, CO; Darnell Reed and wife, Keya, of El Paso, TX, and Rashad Washington of Columbia, MO; two sisters, Jessica Hickman of Columbia, MO, and Donetta Payne of Dallas, TX; five brothers, James Payne of Columbia, MO, Marvin Payne of Columbia, MO, Maurice Allen of Westminster, CA, Butch Simmons of Columbia, MO, and Paul Simmons of Columbia, MO; eight grandchildren, Maccee and Marcellus Reed of Colorado Springs, CO, Tizhana and Isaih Reed of El Paso, TX, Rashad, Jr. and Paige Washington of Columbia, MO, Donytria Payne of Denver, CO, and Montre Payne-Simmons of Denver, CO; one great grandchild, Ximena Payne of Denver, CO; nieces & nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Simmons and Frances Allen; one brother, Ricky Simmons; and one sister, Sandra Kay Payne-Versey.

A Memorial Service will be held for Mr. Payne on Monday, February 25, 2019, 9:30 AM, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
